Hello Aaron and John

This is really helpful, thank you. I do have ssh access via Putty and webmin access or filezilla access to mod files if need be. I've been getting up to speed on command line prompts etc in the last couple of days so this is making sense to me. I'll get some info later today and let you know how I get on.

here's some answers:

Used the command line to get phpinfo in putty. Wouldn't open my file in the browser for some reason!

All of the outputs you refer to are enabled Aaron.

John: The whereis openssl command returned this;

/usr/bin/openssl   /usr/share.man/man1/openssl.1ssl.gz

nothing with a .config

Does that give any clues? No errors btw

I don't know if it sheds any light but I have located the php.ini file which resides in /etc/php5/apache2

and the openssl.cnf file and the certs folder which are in  /etc/ssl

Resolved. Thank you both for your time. I appreciate it.

Resorted to changing host and doing a new install.
