Can you re-use an email address to register a person who was mistakenly deleted? If so how?

I am trying to register the person but i get the message "this email address is already registered here" even though the user no longer exists.

Can anyone help me?

Hi - yes, this should be possible, and I'm pretty sure it was working as of quite recently. What version of Mahara are you using? We improved user deletion a lot with Mahara 1.1.

If you are finding this to be a problem, you might have to go into the database and do some manual changing of a field. I can give you the details if you're interested.

OK. You need to access the database somehow (through a database shell, or phpmyadmin or some such tool). In there, look inside the 'usr' table. You should see records for all users in your database, and also records for any users you have deleted. You'll most likely see a record for the user you deleted who has the email address you want. If you change that e-mail address, it should become free again.

Let me know if that doesn't work, but hopefully it will Smile
