Mahara not loading - Windows Server
07 October 2012, 4:46
Hello,
I'm running Mahara 1.6 on a Windows server using WampServe.
Mahara installs and looks fine locally.
I've updated $cfg wwwroot to the server's name in the DNS, e.g. http://servername/mahara
When I use the address locally (http://servername/mahara/) the Mahara home page loads up fine.
When I got another computer on my intranet, Mahara won't load.
The server can be pinged.
Any suggestions where I should look next for the problem?
Thanks!

Hi Kevin,
Just so I can be sure what you're describing here:
You're loading up mahara in a browser of the server it is running on?
But when you try access it from a computer that is not the server, it doesn't load?
Assuming the above two queries are true, and bearing in mind that I'm not at all familiar with WampServe, I'm going to guess this is to do with firewalling.
Pinging does not happen on the same port number that http requests happen on, so check that the router firewall and server itself (eg, windows firewall or whatever it is called these days) are allowing port 80 to access the server.
Good luck,
Melissa.

Hi Melissa,
Thanks. We're pursuing DNS entries right now. The two statements were true.
What is most strange is that it WAS available over the network for about ten minutes. Then I had to go teach a class. Came back and hour later and it was unavailable.
This helps me know who to ask questions to next in my org.
Thanks!

Hi Kevin,
Ok cool.
Some more points to check:
Was the successful connection (from the other computer) on a different type of connection than the failed connection? eg, wired vs wired, different building, different proxy route, non-vpn vs vpn, etc.
Did you also try accessing the server via the ip address rather than the name? (this would answer the dns question)
Good luck,
Melissa.
