What's special about a Template View in Groups

Looking at Views in a Group (in 1.1.1) you can create a view, create a template, or copy a view. The first two seem to do exactly the same thing - what's the difference. A help icon/box would be nice here perhaps?

Hmm. It's a good question!

We deliberately made a new button for creating a template, because at one point we were going to allow every single blocktype to be used in a template view, even if the user wouldn't have been able to use them before. For example, groups can't really use the 'profile info' blocktype, but in template views they were going to be able to use them anyway.

But then we changed the behaviour back so that the only blocktypes that could be put in a template were those that could go in a view. Which is why for all intents and purposes they look like they're doing the same thing now. The only difference is the default value of the 'allow copying' checkbox when you get to the View Access screen.

Maybe it makes sense for us to ditch the 'create template' button completely now?
