Hi there,

We have developed a website using mahara which can be found on this link here >>

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to create a public blog with RSS feed within Mahara. We would like our "News & Events" link on the main navigation to link to a public blog for all users, logged in & out to view. At the moment it is just linking to a "view"

Also, is it possible to add a RSS feed to this blog through Mahara.

Any help would be greatly appreciated/

Thanks,

Y

Hello Y,

RSS feed is a new feature in 1.3, for public blogs.

For more information follow this forum http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=1521

Hi dajan.

Thank you for your response. I was just wondering if you knew when 1.3 would be available? Also, would you have any link to a site that has already used/incorporated a public blog in to their navigation?

Do you have to create the public blog through a profile or a view?

Thanks in advance,

Y

You have to create the blog through your profile area as normal, but then you have to put it in a public view before you can get an rss feed to it.

As for the release date of 1.3, we are currently aiming for a release candidate around the 9th of August with the final release shortly after depending on what is found during testing.

If you want to help out, what we need most at this stage is for people to test the latest betas on a test copy of their production sites and send us feedback.

Cheers,

Francois

Dear Y,

You can already test 1.3 in its beta 2 version. Click on the Download Mahara button on the Mahara web site front page and then choose All Downloads.

Install this version on a test server. The version is relatively well stable but it is still a beta version.

In 1.3 when you add a blog entry or the whole blog into a view and make the latest public (with valid begin and end date of publication or leave them empty) a RSS button is then displayed on the view near the blog's name.

You can then copy/paste the link into your favorite RSS-reader. I just have here a quick and dirty example you can see (http://moodle.gymnyon.vd.ch/maharadev/artefact/blog/atom.php?artefact=4&view=6) but this will not online for long, just for testing purposes.

Hope that helps.
