Upgrading Mahara Guide recommends backup of dataroot.

In our case it has grown up to more than 4 GB.

Is it necessary to backup dataroot ? What are the consequences if this is not done before upgrade ?

Yaju,

If you already have Mahara 1.2+, and you're upgrading to a later version, and you really want to live dangerously, go ahead.  It's probably not too risky because recent upgrades haven't been writing to dataroot as far as I'm aware.

If you're starting from an earlier version then definitely back it up.
