switching from MYSQL to POSTGRES
11 July 2010, 6:05
Hello :-)
I am about to install a new Mahara server which will be integrated with a runngin Moodle site.
I have previous experiance with MySQL (and none with Postgress) so i prefear to install Mahara with MySQL although i read the forum thread that recommands Postgres (http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=302).
In the future...
Will i be able to DUMP the MySQL DB (of course) and IMPORT it into Postgres DB ?
(in case i get into performance and data integrity issues ?)

Will the instructions in the "convert and import" section in the next link:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Converting_MySQL_to_PostgreSQL
Will be enought to convert from MYSQL to POSTGRES, in Mahara's case ?
Does any of the mentioned tools in the following link recommanded, for the task ?

Switching from one database type to another is not a trivial operation and it's a bit hard to test that everything was done right.
Unless you have a good reason to move to Postgres, I'd say you're better off staying on MySQL if that's what you are currently running. Despite the fact that we prefer Postgres, we do support both databases.
Cheers,
