By the way, we have committed a fix for this, which will be in 1.2.6.  In the meantime, if you want the fix right now, this link will generate a tarball of the latest 1.2.x code:

Both Fileinfo and mime_content_type are tried on upload, and the warning message has been removed altogether.

I added the line suggested by Richard to config.php and the error messages no longer print to the screen.

I got the same error messages with the upgrade to Mahara 1.2.5. I'm on a Macintosh server running Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) and PHP/5.2.12

I enabled the mime_magic module using Server Admin and restarted Apache a couple times with no luck getting rid of the error message although the module shows as being loaded. So...I've suppressed the error message as suggested here.
