Hello,

I am currently working on a search plugin using the Sphinx full-text search engine.

http://sphinxsearch.com/index.html

Primarily it will work as a drop-in replacement for the internal plugin, but other features should be easy to implement. For example, finding friends from the user's own institution might be useful at some situations.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks for creating this plugin, it is a feature many have been looking for.

Is anyone working on the Postgres version / patch?

All of my Mahara instances are running Postgres and i'd really like to try it out.

I have updated the plugin to be compatible with Mahara 1.3. There are also changes to sphinx.conf file. If you are updating from the previous version you should check the differences between the config files.

I noticed that the search plugin option is missing from the site configuration page.  The form element  is commented out for some reason. I think it can be safely restored.
