We would like to change the word Friends across the whole of the portfolio is there an easy way of doing this or do I have to go through all php files and replace the word Friend or Friends manually.

Any advice greatefully received

You can change any part of the language in the /lang directory.

Do a find and replace in all the files in that directory. You can use the sed command in Linux to achieve this.
