Comment section on copied pages

08 July 2021, 18:31

Hi,

we recommend our teachers to deactivate the comment section, when they share templates with a group, because students often just upload files in the comment section instead of copying the page. Until the update to Mahara 21.04 the comment section was automatically reset to Allow Comments while copying it. But now this doesn't work anymore. Students must activate the comment section by themselves. Is there any setting the admin can make, so a deactivated comment section will be activated automatically while copying the page?

Thanks,
Christine

Liebe Kristina,

Christine

Hi Christine,

The setting for allowing comments is reset back to ‘Yes’ on copied templates in Mahara 21.04. Students shouldn’t need to activate the comments section. Have there been any customisations made on your codebase?

Can you please check that you are following these steps :

  1. Create an institution collection and update the settings on the ‘Edit access’ page:

    • Set ‘Allow comments’ to ‘No’.

    • Set ‘Allow copying set to ‘Yes’.

    • Select your institution and save.

  1. Log in as a member of your institution.

  2. Go to ‘Pages and collections’.

  3. Click ‘Copy’ to see the institution template.

  4. Select ‘Copy collection’ on the portfolio template owned by your institution.

  5. Click ‘Next...’ on ‘Edit collection pages’.

  6. Check that on expanding the ‘Advanced options’ the ‘Allow comments’ setting is set to ‘Yes’.

  7. Display the copied page and you should see the comments section at the bottom.

If you take different steps, please post them so we can make sure to test with your scenario.

Thank you,

Doris

Hi Christine,

Can you please also check that 'Allow page comments by default' is set to 'Yes' in Admin menu -> Configure site -> Site options -> Site settings? That is a new setting.

Thank you

Kristina
