Working on group assignments: practical question

19 January 2018, 2:51

Hi everyone

I am going to work with Mahara for creating group assignments in groups of three students. Now, I assume it is not possible to work on a group assignment simultaneously like you can in for example Google Docs. I wonder how this works : if one group member is working on the group assignment, do the other group members get a notification when they are trying to work on it at the same time? Or how do you avoid that two students work on the same page at the same time?

Hello Melissa,

Mahara is not capable of tracking changes or have people work simultaneously on text. Students can work on the same page at the same time as long as they don't edit the same blocks. If they do, they would overwrite each other's changes.

You can put group pages on your watchlist (click the "More options" button on a page and you'll see a link). You will then be notified about changes that were made on the page.

However, there is no notification letting students know that somebody else has started working on it / that the page is locked from editing due to somebody else making changes.

Cheers

Kristina
