My learners keep clicking on the block titles on pages, which link out to separate pages containing only the content of the block - baffling to me, and very confusing to my learners!

Is there a switch where I can turn off this useless linking? Or am I missing something? Is this not a bug but a feature?

Don,

The only use I've seen of it so far is if the block is able to have comments left against it, which allows lecturers to leave feedback on individual sectionso of work without it disturbing the look/feel of the page.

Thanks Wullie, that makes sense, though I wouldn't normally use it in my work with adults. It would still be great to be able to turn this linking off. Something with CSS perhaps?

I think your feature request goes somewhat into the direction of what Gordon wants for internal video: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1034382 - Not having the file name which links through the individual artefact page.
