Has Mahara had any user meetings yet? If so, what do we call them?

If anyone is coming to Florida, I would love to organize something.  Or maybe we need to agree on a time that would work for a world-wide online gathering?

It would be fun to hear peoples voices other than just Moodleman's LOL

Hi Jamie,

short answer: Yes

detailed answer: The last moodlemoot in Bamberg, Germany (http://moodlemoot.moodle.de) had a track with 4 presentations about E-Portfolio and Mahara.

"Keynote" speaker and wamr welcomed Penny Leach. She explained the history of Mahra, lighended about the aims of the New Zealand government and the participating universities and whispered about some details of hte roadmap Wink Cool

Dr. Alex Büchner  (http://synergy-learning.com,Mahara partner in Ireland presented among other things the possibilities of the moodle 2.0portfolio API and the export to the Mahara incoming folder.

Sigi Jakob-Kühn (http:/www.school-networking.de) refered about her experiences in using Mahara for new learning and in the teacher training. She invited the audience to leave old paths in school and start to the future.

Andy Hediger (http://www.lernenzwei.ch/) presented my favorite presentations. His thoughts about E-Portfolio work are awesome and i hope to discuss with him details how to unse them with my students.

So everybody discovered the potential to work with Mahara and the about 70 listeners were very pleased.

In the talks beside the official program guys from NZ, Ireland, Germany,Czech Republic and many other countries discussed till the morning Cool

Heinz

Hi - like Heinz described, mostly we have just tacked on to Moodle Moots so far. We're not big enough for a pure Mahara conference yet (at least I think we're not - maybe it depends on where we go!)

FYI, there are two IRC channels on irc.freenode.org where you can hear other voices about Mahara:

  • #mahara - for general discussion and support of Mahara. All the core devs are in there, you can get support there if you need it for anything about Mahara - assuming someone is awake of course Cool
  • #mahara-dev - for us developers to discuss things, like bug fixes, and to have meetings from time to time about various things. This channel isn't for support, but you are welcome to join and eavesdrop on the conversation - and perhaps contribute too if you here something you think you have good feedback for Smile

There will be a Mahara stand at the Eifel e-portfolio conference in June and partner talks etc. This will be held in London June 22nd to 24th

Details here - http://www.epforum.eu/lfl2009/conference/programme

ULCC did run a Mahara stream at their Moodlewonderland day late last year and plans are afoot more more Mahara specific mini-confs.

As mentioned above we have been fortunate enough to get slots at various MoodleMoots but recognise that this is certainly something that is at the discretion of the individual Moot organisers.
