Hello,

I've been running Mahara for about 2 years now and this is the first time I've seen this happen. I have a student who uploaded multiple files but cannot access them after uploading. When I masquerade as the student I am able to open the files. The student can log in and see the file listed in the directories he's created, but when he clicks on them, it give him an error about access permissions. I'm hesitant to start poking around the file structure and resetting permissions without some guidance. Can anyone offer me any?

Thank you!

Hi Sonja,

I haven't seen this one before, but we might be able to help with a bit more information.  What's the exact error message displayed when clicking on the files?  Is there an error in the webserver log at that time when access is denied?  Finally, what version of Mahara are you running?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for getting back to me and so quickly! The error message says,

Access Denied

You do not have access to view this page

Artefact 36872 not in View 1626

I looked through the logs but don’t see anything that seems like it's related but I have to admit, I’m not that good at perusing Linux logs! The version of Mahara is:

Mahara version 1.2.5 (2009111015)

Thanks for any help/info you can provide!!

Hi Sonja,

First, is your cron running correctly?  Mahara relies on a cron job to keep track of which artefacts are inside other artefacts.  Also, check the cron log if you have one - when you have lots of artefacts, the cron job to compute these artefact relationships frequently ran out of memory with Mahara < 1.3.4.

You should upgrade to the latest stable version of Mahara (currently 1.4.1).

And if you're interested, you can find more information on this issue on these pages:
