HTML escape characters

I have installed Mahara (latest version) and everything seems to work fine, except when I type in the html editor text with quotation marks or apostrophes, I get the escape characters in the rendered page:

"conditional formatting"

becomes

\"conditional formatting\"

I searched in the Mahara forums, I googled relevant terms, but nothing.

Any initial suggestions?

Cheers

I was able to get this resolved by deleting the magic quotes line in the default .htaccess file in the root directory of Mahara.

You're probably not using the latest version of Mahara though because we stopped shipping a .htaccess file in Mahara 1.4.0.

Thanks for your reply, Francois.

I only downloaded the latest version four days ago (on Saturday) from https://launchpad.net/mahara/1.4. More specifically, the .tar.gz from http://launchpad.net/mahara/1.4/1.4.0/+download/mahara-1.4.0.tar.gz.

Cheers
