Mahara after graduation

I am wondering if there is a service already available that would allow learners to take their mahara portfolio to after high school graduation.

I don't think school boards will want to provide that service. A few teachers are a little hesitent to use Mahara with their students if the students can not maintain their portfolios after they graduate.

I have heard that this is done elsewhere and I would like to learn more about possibilities.

Thanks

I think there are a few free ePortfolio hosting sites springing up, and this one has been around since 2008:

www.foliospaces.com

Hello Dirk,

I know, this is not a school example, but universities are beginning to think about offering lifelong portfolios. Plymouth State for example does so on their Mahara installation. Students get 250 MB and can use that also after graduation. It is not enough to put up large multimedia files, but those could be linked into the portfolio from external resources.

Hi,

I've just been asked by a graduate student about possible hosting sites and checked out the links - but http://www.edumobile.me goes to a 'server not found' error and both http://www.mahara.me/ and http://foliospaces.com/ end in 'related links' adverts.

Can anyone suggest an alternative - hopefully one that might still be around in a couple of years?

Obviously the best solution would be to offer the students an alumni access to their existing institutional Mahara, but getting policy changed from 'kill student accounts after graduation' takes time.

Regards, Gordon.

Hey Gordon,

look at this...a four year old thread, and I started it. Anyways, right about after I made that post, I started http://www.portfoliocommunities.com to meet that need. It's free, fully enabled, always current, never lost any data and will be around for years to come. So far its used mostly by teachers in training, first aid providers, dental assistants, nurses, some musicians and artists. About 30-40 portfolios are imported each year, mostly form Australian and UK universities. Some tell me they got their jobs because of their portfolio. It would be great to have some animal health people and veterinarians on the site as well. Maybe you'd like an alumni institution?

Anyhow, feel free to suggest the site to your community.

Cheers
