Hello,

since I installed Mahara on my server, I got this error:

Mahara: Site unavailable

Your server appears to be running safe mode. Mahara does not support running in safe mode. You must turn this off in either the php.ini file, or in your apache config for the site.

If you are on shared hosting, it is likely that there is little you can do to get safe_mode turned off, other than ask your hosting provider. Perhaps you could consider moving to a different host.

What is going wrong? In my config.php I set up the 'log_environ_targets = 0' code and gave my 'maharadata' in the root the 777-permission.

Thanks for helping,

Steve

Problem solved

The solution was hard to find, but in fact quite easy. In the root of the server there was a php.ini which  we had't seen. In this php.ini safe_mode was turned on. We just had to change this in off and the site was working. In our attemps to solve the problem we had created a php.ini in the html directory (public_html) but that had no effect on the settings. (After solving the problem we removed the php.ini from the HTML folder).
