Hello

creative concept in learning and teaching for adults and mainly in corporate environments are my profession. As owner of eLeDia we support educational institutions and HR departmenst in implementing learning solutioons mainly based on Moodle. You know Moodle? ... the phantastic learning management system. After eight years of working with Moodle every week I find new opportunities to work with the tool.

Since some time I'm investigating how to use Mahara. My main interest is to see how Mahara can be part of a lifelong learning scenario that supports users in different situation: informal and mor formal learning.

I'm just thinking that Moodle is more a learning communication tool with personal portfolio. The term 'portfolio' is alittle bit bulky (German: sperrig). While primary schools and Kindergardens are working with portfolios here in Germany secondary schools, HE and universities use portfolios seldom and mostly on project base.

Projects trying to introduce eportfolios sometimes seem to fail. Lets Mahara introduce not as a problematic intention from teachers but as a solution for real needs. What will happen if we introduce mainly the communicational aspect and not the pages and collections?

Having spent nearly 20 years in 'front-line' education, as Teacher, Advisory Teacher (IT) and Deputy Head, I am currently a Senior Learning Technologist  at the University of South Wales. My previous role at University of Wales Newport, before the merger was as 'Web Based Online Learning Environment Developer' and I have also done some part-time lecturing at the University where I taught the Curriculum Studies, ICT module in the BA(Primary) Education Initial Teacher Training course.

Most recently I was a Year 3/4 teacher and Deputy Head in a Primary School in Monmouthshire, where I was the IT coordinator, some time network technician, staff IT trainer and webmaster. I have been teaching in Gloucester, Cardiff and Monmouthshire since the early 90s and started out with BBCs and Acorn 3000s!!!

I have a wide interest in both Open Source Software and Open Education (Resources and Practice) and in sharing expertise through community practices such as these Moodle forums.

Other interests are reading (particularly Lee Child, JRR Tolkien, Clive Cussler and CJ Sansom at the moment), music (choral singing, playing both piano and trombone - but not at the same time!) and sport (playing cricket, watching basketball/NFL - and of course, being Welsh, the rugby!!!)
