Hi everyone,

Mahara is involved in a project with other e-portfolio vendors, to implement import and export of portfolio data between systems. This project is called PIOP, and is based around the LEAP standard, being championed by CETIS in the UK. There are several other eportfolio systems involved, and the end goal is that they should all be able to import their own data, and other portfolio's data in at least _some_ form.

The timeframe on the project isn't too long - the project officially starts on November 1, and runs for five months. Given that, and assuming the project goes well, we may be able to include full import and export support for Mahara 1.2.

I have started a page on the wiki detailing the status of the import/export support. We're currently doing analysis and design work, and our notes from our IRC meetings are on the wiki. The next meeting is hopefuly in a few hours time, some time between 10AM and 12PM, GMT, in the #mahara-dev channel on freenode. Feel free to join and lurk, or even provide input!

Portability of Mahara

Hello Nigel,

This was the kind of information I was looking for, as I am researching into the portability of Mahara.

We are going to start a pilot project with students in the college where I work, and the common question among academic staff and learners is:

How can students transfer their work between institutions?

I have been looking every single menu option of Mahara this morning, but I could not find any feature for generating a XML file/zip with all the contents of a learner's portfolio.

So the answer to my question is: At present-and for the foreseeable future-, students can not transfer their eportfolio work among institutions. Am I right?

Aaricia Thorgalson (aka Mari Cruz García)

Not quite. In the present,

Not quite. In the present, and for the next few months, students cannot. But certainly in the forseeable future they can! :)
